Caregivers, Support Workers, Care Assistants

COURSE INFORMATION

 There is a growing demand for trained and qualified men and women able to provide safe, effective and compassionate care for people in either residential or community settings.

Get qualified to work in home-based care, rest homes or community homes. Or, go on to further training in disability, mental health, support work, diversional therapy or general nursing.

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

This course runs for 20 weeks, 5 days a week, 9 - 3pm

Semester 1    1 February - 2 July 2010

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

All applicants will be interviewed and must prove to be suitable for work in the care industry.

QUALIFICATIONS

On successful completion of the course, students will receive

• National Certificate in Support of the Older Person (Level 3)
• Dementia Care Certificate – units 5012, 5019, 5020 & 17029
• First Aid Certificate

New Qualification:

National Certificate in Community Support Services (Core Competencies) (Level 3)

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

Skill requirements for care staff are increasing!

• Provide quality care
• Understand and follow workplace procedures and practices
• Solve problems and work in a safe way
• Listen and observe
• Communicate clearly in writing and with words
• Work successfully with other people

HLC ’S CAREGIVING TRAINING

• Get practical skills in real-life care giving situations
• Complete a nationally recognised care qualification in 20 weeks
• Have time to study and finish your qualification
• Learn in a relaxed setting with other adults
• Have full-time tutor support until you finish your qualification
• Improve your skill at reading, speaking and writing for the workplace
• Opportunity to study additional topics like infection control and wound care
