COURSE INFORMATION

 This one year course provides a real, flexible and effective learning environment for those who require some type of support with their learning.

This course is for students transitioning from school, and wishing to further their education

or

those wishing to enter or re-enter the workforce

 

QUALIFICATIONS

On successful completion of the course students will receive

  • National Certificate in Work and Community Skills (Supported Learning)
  • A comprehensive First Aid Certificate

You may qualify for a Training and / or Travelling Allowance

 

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

The course content will include

  • Identification of current skills and personal strengths
  • NZQA Unit Standards
  • Effective communication skills
  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Effective work practice skills
  • Self-development
  • Interview preparation and personal presentation
  • CV preparation and career planning
  • Camps and field trips
  • Budgeting
  • Interaction with local businesses through work experience
  • Community awareness
  • Links to other agencies who can provide specialist support eg Supported Employment, Workbridge


HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?

This course runs 5 days a week, 9.00am – 3.00pm

31 January - 9 December 2011


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Have learning support needs
  • No specific secondary school qualifications are required
  • All applicants will be interviewed


WHERE TO FROM HERE?

On completion of the course you can progress on to

  • Full-time or part-time work
  • Further training
  • Full-time registration with a Supported Employment Agency
