Course Information

This qualification is designed to give you more experience in the Caregiving area. It is designed for senior support workers who currently work in residential and home and community roles. The programme is class-room based one day a week, and students are assessed in their work place (by mutual agreement) by our tutors.

Topics include:

  • Supporting complex needs

  • Palliative care

  • Advanced dementia care

  • Leading a team on the night shifts

  • The qualification will cover the valuable dementia training modules


On successful completion of the course students will receive:

  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) Level 4

Graduates of this qualification will be able to:

  • Work collaboratively to support the health and wellbeing of a person with complex needs.

  • Implement person-centred approaches to support a person with complex needs

  • Take a leadership role in a health or wellbeing setting

Entry Requirements

Level 3 Health and Wellbeing Qualification or an equivalent qualification or experience in the health and wellbeing sectors.

Where to from here?

This qualification builds upon the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Support Worker programme. Graduates may go on to work in more specialised areas of Caregiving such as dementia units or caring for people with other advanced needs either in residential or community facilities. It may also lead to further study in related health and wellbeing programmes, or in leadership and management.
