    IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT FINDING A JOB, THEN THE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMME IS FOR YOU!

    TRAINING TO GET YOU BACK INTO THE WORKFORCE.FOR THOSE IN RECEIPT OF AN INCOME TESTED BENEFIT

    SUPPORT FOR UP TO 26 WEEKS TO GET YOU INTO EMPLOYMENT.

    On this programme we will build an individual employment plan based around your needs and abilities. This will be the basis of the support and training you will receive.

    • Setting up an email address and how to use email

    • Setting up a MYMSD account and how to use it

    • Use of basic word documents

  • A PROGRAMME FOR SOLE PARENTS TO GAIN EMPLOYMENT SKILLS AND OVERCOME BARRIERS WITH A GOAL TO ENTER OR RETURN TO THE WORKFORCE - SUPPORT FOR UP TO 32 WEEKS

    This programme is aimed to be user friendly for single parents. We do our best to work around school hours and childcare so that no one will be disadvantaged. We will meet with you on a one on one basis and work with you to put together an employment plan that incorporates career and life goals that are achievable.

    OUR EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANTS WILL HELP YOU WITH:

    Barriers or fears connected to work:

    • Finding childcare

    • Budgeting – how to use banking as an advantage

    • Transitioning to work – The advantages

    • Being a good role model for your whanau

    • Driver licencing – aiming towards your next licence if applicable

    • Placing you into an employment environment that is right for you

    • Ongoing support once employment has been gained

    • Overcoming the fear of your first day – settling in

    Job preparation, searching and making the most of employment opportunities:

    • CV Development – The skills to continue to build as you go

    • Application and cover letter writing

    • How to job search

    • Interview techniques

    • How to get referees

    • Online tools

    • Understanding IRD and family tax credits

    Entering or returning to the workforce:

    • The 90 day trial – what does this mean

    • Understanding your contract

    • How to be a good employer

    • Dealing with sick children and work

    • Work life balance

    • Overcoming the fear of your first day – settling in

    Once you are working we will give ongoing support for 12 months. You can call us with any questions or fears. HLC wants you to stay in work and we will make sure we are available if you need us.

    HLC EMPLOYMENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT WILL WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH YOU TO:

    • Meet with you, your family and support networks that you would like to bring to the meeting

    • We will listen and learn about you

    • Discuss and explore your goals and aspirations

    • Identify your work skills and personal strengths

    • Assess your employment needs

    • Prepare a career plan

    • Identify any support you may need in workplace

    • Link you with other agencies for specialist support

    WE WILL WORK WITH THE EMPLOYER TO SUPPORT EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENTS, BY:

    • Careful matching of employees to the work place

    • Assisting to access employment subsidies and training support subsidies

    • Goal-oriented training contracts agreed with employer and employee

    • On going client support and supervision

    • Workplace visits and ongoing monitoring to assist integration, and support successful job outcomes

Employment Services In Schools (ESIS)

 
  • FOR DISABLED YOUNG PEOPLE INCLUDING PEOPLE WITH HEALTH AND MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE NEURO-DIVERSE

    AIMS OF THE SERVICE

    The Employment Service in Schools (ESIS) is a pilot programme. The goal of this service is to improve the perception of employment for disabled people, their families and schools, and increase expectations that young people with disabilities including health conditions can and should be entering the labour market. ESIS is for disabled young people including people with health and mental health conditions and people who are neuro-diverse.

    THE PROGRAMME

    • Promotes employment or employment related training as their first and best options when they leave school

    • Develops work confidence through work experience and paid part time work outside school hours

    • Identify employment goals and seek training or employment opportunities that will help achieve those goals

    • Work alongside existing supports

    GOALS AND OUTCOMES

    • Career/employment pathway support

    • Preparation for employment

    • Employment placements through work experience and out of school jobs

    • Employment support on an ad hoc basis for part time work undertaken outside of school hours

    • Empowerment

    • Encouragement

    • Guided support

    • Motivation

    • Employment skills

    • Work experience

    • Confidence building

    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

    People eligible to participate will:

    • be currently living in New Zealand; and

    • be a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident; and

    • be aged between 14 and 21 years old inclusive (on enrolment); and

    • have a disability, health condition and/or mental health condition or be neuro-diverse that is likely to continue for a minimum of six months, and that presents a barrier to employment; and

    • be enrolled in a Secondary School or Kura Kaupapa Māori in New Zealand and be planning to leave school within two years of engaging.

    PATHWAY PLANS

    Individualised Pathway Plans will include:

    • The student’s employment goals and aspirations

    • Strengths, abilities and interests

    • Barriers to employment and any support needed to reduce barriers

    • Any skill development required

    • Opportunities and activities for achieving the goals

    • Key agreed activities that will be undertaken, and time-frames.

    A programme for Pacific Island youth aged 15 years and over with an outcome of either employment or higher education being the goal.

    WHAT WE DO FOR OUR TUPU CLIENTS:

    • Driver license assistance

    • CV and cover letter writing

    • Work related training and skills building

    • Workplace training with appropriate employers

    • Assistance with studylink applications and MSD based enquiries

    At HLC we aim to work with young pacific people and their families to pathway them into the next step in their career which may include further study. We will be with you every step of the way, from preparing for work/study to the in work/study support to ensure that it is sustainable and appropriate.
